Arden Key, EDGE, Jacksonville Jaguars

One of the biggest problems with the Chicago Bears’ defense in 2022 was their inability to get to the quarterback. They ranked last in sacks and quarterback hurries and knockdowns.

Arden Key was the Raiders’ third-round pick in 2018. He didn’t live up to expectations, however. After three seasons, the Raiders let him go.

Key improved in the past two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars. After only registering three sacks in his first three seasons, he has 11 in his last two.

After having the highest salary cap space in 2022, the Jaguars now have the second-lowest space. They are about $30.3 million over the cap. With a lot of money already invested in the defensive front (Travon Walker, Josh Allen, Folorunso Fatukasi, and Roy Robertson-Harris), it looks as if they cannot re-sign Key.

Key has been a very effective player. With the Niners in 2021, he only played in 35 percent of the snaps yet he recorded 6.5 sacks. In 2022, he only played in 41 percent of the snaps in Jacksonville. He still managed to record 4.5 sacks. He can be a great rotational player with the Bears. Any additional help they can receive will be terrific for them.
