Aaron Rodgers is already holding the New York Jets hostage. Now there’s a ransom note. According to a report from ESPN’s Dianna Russini, Rodgers has somehow let it be known that he would like specific players to be part of the Jets if he’s going to agree to get traded there.
Seriously.
Aaron Rodgers gives the New York Jets his “wish list”
The Jets already went out and hired Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator. They have been investing in the offensive line the last couple of years and they’ve also invested heavily in their offensive weaponry. Looking at the Jets’ roster right now, you’ve got guys like offensive rookie of the year Garrett Wilson, former first-round pick and big-money free agent pickup Corey Davis, second-round pick Breece Hall, 2022 free agent pickups like CJ Uzomah and Tyler Conklin, and plenty more.
It does look like the Jets will be landing Allen Lazard in free agency as well. That could be a clear precursor to this team acquiring Aaron Rodgers.
With that being said, Aaron Rodgers is clearly just holding us all hostage at this point. At the time of this writing, we are still hours away from Rodgers’ appearance on The Pat McAfee Show and presumably, that’s where he’s going to reveal his intentions for the coming season. Great.
Rodgers in 2023 has become so eerily similar to Brett Favre in 2008 that my brain can barely handle it. It’s totally fine for Rodgers to take time to make his decision. It’s another thing to string it out. Maybe he’s known for a while and this is all just theatrics.
With that being said, it’s still unknown what he’s going to do at this point, and not only are NFL fans being held hostage while waiting for Rodgers news, but he’s also holding the Jets and other players around the league hostage by keeping his decision — to this point — under wraps.
Now, he’s not only holding the Jets hostage, he’s also got a ransom letter. A list of demands that includes many of his former teammates in Green Bay, as well as Odell Beckham Jr. Wait a second, wasn’t Rodgers just upset a year or so ago that he wasn’t having enough say in the personnel with Green Bay? Now he wants all those guys to come with him to the Jets?
I guess, to a point, part of Rodgers’ problem was that the Packers were getting rid of guys he liked but this is still a fascinating development because it’s not just that Rodgers wants to leave the Packers, it’s not just that he wants to join the Jets — there are stipulations. This has become a clown show of epic proportions.
