The Lamar Jackson situation appears to be heating up a bit as he revealed that he officially requested a trade, and there’s one team who needs to get him.  There could be 10 different teams that could end up making a move for Lamar Jackson

The 2019 MVP revealed on his Twitter account recently that he officially requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens on March 2nd.  Honestly, this could end with Jackson getting retained by Baltimore, or it could end with fireworks.

There does not appear to be a  ton of interest in Jackson at the moment, but I don’t agree with that.  He wins over 65% of his starts, has made Pro Bowls, and has won an MVP award.  The AFC is loaded, and I could see if Jackson wanted to head towards the much less competitive NFC, but there is an AFC team that I believe needs to make a move for the dual-threat quarterback, and that’s the New England Patriots.

The Patriots might be in a huge pickle in 2023 and potentially beyond.  The Buffalo Bills still exist, the Miami Dolphins are an up-and-coming team who added Vic Fangio and Jalen Ramsey this offseason, and if the New York Jets end up getting Aaron Rodgers, then the Patriots are surely going to be viewed as the worst team in the conference.

Mac Jones does not move the needle and is a low-ceiling player.  He is not a franchise QB, in my opinion.  In 2022, Bailey Zappe looked better than Jones when he got his playing him, which isn’t a good thing.

The best course of action is for the Patriots to make a play for Jackson.  They have enough draft capital and plenty of cap space to make this happen, and it could set them up nicely for the next seven or so years.

Bill Belichick and the Patriots front office surely do not believe that Mac Jones is good enough to compete in the AFC East, especially when/if the Jets land Rodgers, right?

Lamar Jackson is the best possible option for them in their current state.

They need to make a move.
