Building a starting defense with remaining NFL free agents
Building a starting defense with remaining free agents: Secondary
Cornerbacks: Marcus Peters, Shaq Griffin
Let’s get two outside starters in Marcus Peters and Shaq Griffin. Peters isn’t what he used to be, but he’s still a decent starting cornerback in the NFL and should be starting for a team come the beginning of the 2023 season.
He’s played for the Chiefs, Rams, and Ravens.
Shaq Griffin began his career with the Seattle Seahawks before signing a big deal with the Jaguars, where he was recently cut after two seasons. He’s a decent enough cornerback but is only 27 years old, so I like the idea of taking a chance on him.
Safeties: Adrian Amos, John Johnson
How about two quality safeties on the backend? Amos has played for the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers and just hit the end of the deal he signed with the Packers back in 2019.
John Johnson began his career with the Los Angeles Rams before signing a deal with the Cleveland Browns where he was cut after two seasons. Johnson has three seasons with over 100 combined tackles, and Amos had 102 combined tackles this year as well.
This safety tandem is solid and a tough one, to say the least.
Our starting defense with remaining NFL free agents actually feels pretty solid to me:
- DE: Yannick Ngakoue
- DE: Matthew Ioannidis
- DT: A’Shawn Robinson
- OLB: Leonard Floyd
- OLB: Bud Dupree
- ILB: Myles Jack
- ILB: Zach Cunningham
- CB: Marcus Peters
- CB: Shaq Griffin
- S: Adrian Amos
- S: John Johnson III
Could this be a defense ranked in the top half of the NFL? I think so.
