Surprise pick at number one in this 2023 NFL mock draft
18. Detroit Lions: Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah
This year’s NFL Draft has been deemed one of the best tight end classes in years, with outstanding top-end talent, as well as solid depth and upside throughout the draft. Dalton Kincaid is one of those top-end guys, viewed as the number one tight end in the class.
With the Lions trading T.J. Hockenson a season ago, they got back a second-round selection this season and a third-rounder for next season and now have the opportunity to replace Hockenson with one of the best tight ends we’ve seen in a while, with Dalton Kincaid.
Kincaid played only one year of high school football, which landed him exactly zero offers coming out of college. He spent his first two years of collegiate ball at San Diego, later transferring to play for the Utah Utes.
Kincaid’s limited time in football in general means there is still untapped potential in this kid and we don’t know how high his ceiling might be for him. As a fifth-year senior, he recorded 70 receptions for 890 yards and eight touchdowns. Not only can he excel in the passing game but he did not give up a single pressure or sack in pass protection.
