2. Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois

While Devon Witherspoon was not born in the Chicagoland area but he played his college games in Champaign for the Fighting Illini.

Many draft experts consider Witherspoon the top cornerback prospect in this draft class. Additionally, many people feel that Poles has to get another cornerback to strengthen the unit. They do not feel that Kyler Gordon is the answer.

Yes, Gordon had a rough start to his career. He struggled in coverage and was not a ball hawk. He did improve a great deal down the stretch of the season, though. He was tough in coverage and recorded interceptions in two of his last three games.

Gordon was Poles’ first draft pick so he will want to see him succeed. The improvement late in the season gives off hope that he is the guy to help the defense.

While the cornerbacks unit is pretty solid, it could use another player. However, taking Witherspoon would have to be in the first round at nine. With all the other more pressing needs on the roster, Poles should stay away from Witherspoon.
