NFL insider: Colts could end up with second best QB in 2023 NFL Draft
According to Adam Schefter, the 2023 NFL Draft may not include quarterbacks with the top four picks as some expected. He says that the Indianapolis Colts could get the second choice of QBs if the Texans and Cardinals pass on a QB. And that may not be out of the realm of possibility.
As reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the belief is that the Panthers are expected to take Bryce Young with the first overall pick. This means that C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis will still be available after the first overall pick.
While this report certainly comes from a reliable source, it would be shocking if the Texans were not to take a QB with the second overall pick. It would be even more shocking if the Cardinals don’t trade the third overall pick if the Texans go with the best available player instead of a QB. The Cardinals would get a bounty of picks for a roster that has plenty of holes.
Getting more draft picks is the best thing this team can do for itself right now. Taking Will Anderson (even if he is there) will not fix everything on the Cardinals’ defense that needs tons of help especially after Budda Baker requested a trade.
There is a small possibility that the Cardinals and Texans could both pass on a QB. The likelihood of the Houston passing on someone with their starting QB being Davis Mills and the Cardinals not finding someone with a worthy offer trading up for their pick especially if the Texans pass on a QB is extremely low.
Additionally that you have to consider the fact that Houston has said previously in the past that they will draft a top QB in this draft and only recently backed away from the idea that they may not take a QB.
With all things said, Adam Schefter does have a point that the Colts may not end up getting the short straw with the worst pick of the top QBs in the draft. They may end up with the third QB off the board. One thing is for sure: the Colts and Panthers will be taking QBs in this draft. Colts owner Jim Irsay has all seemed but to confirm that.
