148. Trey Dean, S, Florida

840. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Florida. 148. player. S. Trey Dean

The Chicago Bears again tap into the secondary with Trey Dean here. There are a lot of excellent quarterbacks in the league now so having a good secondary is important.

Dean could be an insurance policy for the defense. Eddie Jackson looked like he was back to form last season before an injury shut down his season. Was his play in 2022 a true return to his form, or was it just a last-ditch effort at returning to glory?

Dean adds quality depth. He could wait in the wings and could step in as a starter. Jackson is due to be a $17 million salary cap hit in 2023 and $18 million in 2024. If Dean shows promise in 2023 and Jackson does not have another big season, Chicago could have Dean take over. That would give the Bears an athletic and young duo at safety.
