The Dallas Cowboys have positioned themselves well in the 2023 offseason to truly make a run in the coming season and potentially win a Super Bowl.  Hear me out for a second, please.  I do think Dallas is in a solid position to “run it back” with the same core of players on both sides of the ball.

With Dan Quinn returning for yet another year, and quality external additions in free agency in Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore, the Cowboys are in a good spot.

Dallas also holds the 26th and 58th overall picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. Let’s start by looking at their depth chart for any major weaknesses.

The Dallas Cowboys can win the Super Bowl this year

Their offense is a solid unit all around.  Their weapons consist of Tony Pollard, CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Michael Gallup.  With a deep receiving core and strong running back play, a likely addition at tight end could turn this unit into an elite one.

The hope here for the Cowboys is that Dak Prescott can play more like his 2021 self rather than his 2022 self, where he threw a whopping 15 interceptions.

The offensive line has four quality starters in Tyler Smith, Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, and Tyler Biadasz.  They might benefit from adding a potential starter at guard, but this team had the 4th highest-scoring offense in 2022, and with the same core of players with a couple potential improvements, they should be elite once again.

The defense should be more of the same.  They kept their defensive core around and added Stephon Gilmore in free agency.  Dan Quinn has had this unit playing extremely well since he arrived a few years ago, and they were the 5th-best scoring defense in 2022.

Micah Parsons is yet again going to flirt with Defensive Player of the Year, and at all three levels of the unit, they’ve got elite playmakers.

The Dallas Cowboys won 12 games last year in a pretty good NFC East.  There’s also the possibility that the Philadelphia Eagles crash down back to Earth a bit after their insane 2022 campaign.  They lost both of their coordinators and a couple of stud players in free agency.  I don’t think it’s outrageous to think that the Dallas Cowboys can win the NFC East and lock up a top-four seed in the NFC.

Also, look at some of the other projected top teams in the conference.  The San Francisco 49ers have some QB concerns to work through, as Brock Purdy might not be ready for the start of the season.  Plus, how do we know he’ll be able to replicate what he did in 2022?

The Minnesota Vikings were one of the top teams in football in 2022, but that was largely due to them not losing a close game.  I don’t think it’s likely that they recreate what happened in 2022 and I think a regression is likely.

No one in the NFC South appears to be a legitimate threat, and I’m not sure the NFC North winner is going to be as good as the Cowboys.  The Dallas Cowboys do appear to have a solid path to get to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1990s.  Why can’t they win it this year?
