CJ Stroud is the No. 2 overall pick, but that wasn’t enough, Will Anderson was the No. 3 overall pick giving the Texans their staples for years to come.
The 2023 NFL Draft is here, and the Houston Texans have made some exciting moves to improve their team. The Texans had a major problem with their quarterback position in 2022, with Davis Mills struggling to perform and the team struggling to win. They were in play for Jimmy G at one point. But with the addition of CJ Stroud, the Texans have finally found their man. The Texans made the right decision by adding CJ Stroud in the 2023 NFL Draft because they had a desperate need for a quarterback to lead their struggling offense.
With Davis Mills’ poor performance in 2022, the team needed an upgrade in the position to rebuild their offense. Stroud has an impressive blend of size, passing-game instincts, and mobility to make him a dynamic player. He has good arm strength, excellent anticipatory throwing, and rarely puts the ball in harm’s way.
He is also in full command of the offense and knows when to dial up the fastball or use off-speed pitches. Stroud’s game is still evolving, and with the right infrastructure around him, he can unlock his full potential. While he has some areas of concern such as inconsistency under pressure, tardy decisions, and pocket drifting, these can be addressed with proper coaching and development. With his accuracy, passing-game instincts, and production, Stroud is an NFL starting quarterback that is worthy of a first-round investment.
With the offensive line and potential weapons, Stroud could find success if he’s thrown into the fire. He’s a true leader who will take the Texans into the future. The Texans were not done.

In addition to giving up this year’s No. 12 and No. 33 overall picks, Houston also sent their 2024 first- and third-round picks to Arizona.
