The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking around their own division and thinking to themselves that they’ve really got to start picking up some steam, or they’re going to get stuck in the proverbial “station”. The Baltimore Ravens have had a very exciting week-plus, signing Odell Beckham Jr., getting a long-term deal done with Lamar Jackson, and drafting Zay Flowers.

The Bengals are among the best teams in the NFL, and their defense got better in round one with the addition of Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy.

The Steelers have plenty to be proud of through the years, of course, but they are stuck right now in the unfortunate limbo of being a solid team, but maybe not being a true playoff contender. The 2023 NFL Draft can push them into that category.

They’re off to a good start with former Georgia tackle Broderick Jones joining the team as their first-round pick. The Steelers traded up three spots with the Patriots to take Jones and now have a chance with three selections on Day 2 to add even more talent to the roster. Who are they picking?

It’s actually wild that we’re even talking about this as a possibility. Joey Porter Jr. was considered by some to be an absolute lock to land with the Steelers at pick no. 17 overall, if he was even on the board in the first place. You can’t fault the Steelers for prioritizing the offensive line, but with the top pick in round two, they should have some fun trade offers to consider but what would be worth passing on Porter?

The Steelers could draft a franchise legacy as Joey Porter Jr.’s father was obviously an outstanding pass rusher in his time with the Steelers.

Junior brings that same level of intensity and physicality to the cornerback position, where he has CB1 traits and size.

The Steelers getting Porter Jr. here would be like having two top-20 picks in this draft. Not a bad return for Chase Claypool.
