Back when the Chicago Bears held the number one pick overall, fans wanted the team to trade down not once but twice. Load up on as many picks as you possibly can, right?

The Bears ended up doing that, trading the top pick to the Carolina Panthers for an absolute haul which included DJ Moore and a 2024 first-round pick, then trading down one more spot with the Philadelphia before getting their guy — Darnell Wright — at no. 10 overall.

Nothing in this draft was more important than protecting Justin Fields, and Wright is going to help do exactly that.

After the Darnell Wright pick, the Bears and GM Ryan Poles went on a defensive kick, taking Gervon Dexter and Zacch Pickens on the defensive line sandwiching Tyrique Stevenson at the cornerback position. I like all three of those picks for the Chicago defense and I like investing in Matt Eberflus’ side of the ball. You hired that guy to be your head coach, but you also hired him for what he can bring to that side.

On Day 3, there were few values better than Tyler Scott out of Cincinnati. Why did he fall to the 133rd overall pick? I guess we may or may not find out the answer to that question. At any rate,he joins a significantly revamped WR unit in Chicago.

Roschon Johnson joins a stable of backs in Chicago where he may legitimately have a shot to emerge as “the guy” within a year or so.
