2024 NFL Draft: 3 offensive players fans must know about
By Jalen Wilson
1. Caleb Williams, QB, USC
Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Jalen Hurts have been draft picks coached by Lincoln Riley, and Williams looks to be next in line. Out of high school, Williams was the 7th ranked recruit and the no.1 Qb in the nation by 247-sports.
Originally, Williams began his collegiate career at Oklahoma University, passing for 1,912 yards and 21 touchdowns, rushing for 442 yards and 6 touchdowns. In his second season, Williams stamped his name as a projected 1st-round player, passing for 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns and rushing for 382 yards and 10 touchdowns. His performance last season earned him the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, and Heisman trophy.
Willams is exceptional at ball placement, Getting the ball out quickly, and accuracy when making intermediate passes. Since Williams is a good runner, he provides the ability to improvise and make plays that are out of structure. However, Williams often struggles with throwing off his back foot, taking check-down passes. His frame is his biggest knock as he stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 215 pounds. But considering that Bryce Young went #1 in the 2023 NFL draft shows that teams are willing to pick Williams early in next year’s NFL Draft.
“He (Williams) looks like Patrick Mahomes playing the college game, the way he has the magic, the ability to extend, the mobility that he has, but also working inside the pocket.” Said ESPN’s NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay. Williams will hear his name called in the top 10 of the 2024 NFL Draft.
