Denver Broncos got it right not trading their WRs

Ever since last year’s trade deadline, there have been rumors of the Denver Broncos potentially being willing to deal one or two of their wide receivers. Specifically, rumors have centered around Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton as possible trade targets for other teams, and someone has even put it out there that they might accept a 1st-round pick for Jerry Jeudy and a 2nd for Courtland Sutton.

Although there have been plenty of rumors, nothing has materialized. There’s certainly still time for a trade to happen, but it would have been really easy for the Broncos to justify dumping Courtland Sutton’s salary and taking way less than their asking price just to move on and get some type of draft pick.

It would have been easy for the Broncos to not pick up Jerry Jeudy’s fifth-year option and trade him to the highest bidder, maybe taking a 2nd-rounder after his mini breakout at the end of last season, and just recoup that draft capital in a small way.

But the Broncos made the right call here. It’s been a rare sight to see all of Jeudy, Sutton, and Tim Patrick on the field at the same time since they’ve all gotten to Denver. Courtland Sutton obviously missed the majority of the 2020 season with a knee injury. Jeudy missed a good chunk of the 2021 season with an ankle injury. Tim Patrick missed the whole 2022 season with a knee injury.

The most we’ve seen these guys on the field together was last year’s offseason hype videos at Russell Wilson’s training complex in San Diego.

It’s sad.

The Broncos, who now have a future Hall of Fame coach, are right to at least see what they have from this group of receivers on the field before making the decision to trade them.
