Chicago Bears position battles to look for: Center
Cody Whitehair — The mainstay
The Chicago Bears offensive line was porous in 2022. The unit could not give Fields enough time to sit in the pocket and find an open receiver. Many times he ran for his life.
In the offseason, Poles went out and picked up two starters on the offensive line. He signed guard Nate Davis and selected tackle Darnell Wright with the 10th overall pick of the draft.
With those pickups, the unit can now settle in. Add some of the draft picks of last year and there is added depth on the line. With the addition of Davis at guard, Cody Whitehair now battles to win a spot at center.
Cody Whitehair is a familiar face on the Bears’ offensive line. He has been a mainstay with the unit in recent years. He played exclusively at center for his first three seasons. Then he alternated between center and guard his next two. In his last two seasons, he played exclusively at left guard.
Known for his consistency and leadership qualities, Whitehair has been a reliable presence. He possesses excellent football intelligence, a strong understanding of the offense, and the ability to make pre-snap adjustments. Whitehair’s experience and chemistry with the offensive line will be factors that work in his favor during the competition.
