The Chicago Bears want to repeat their success with the running game of last season. They also want to avoid having quarterback Justin Fields run so much. There will be a three-way battle to see who becomes the starter.
The Chicago Bears had the number one rushing attack in the NFL last season. That’s saying a lot when the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills had a strong rushing attack to go along with a much better offense.
Chicago wants to repeat that success in 2023. However, they realize that quarterback Justin Fields’ historic 1,143 yards and league-leading 7.1 yards per carry.
The Bears don’t want to have to depend on Fields’ legs as much in 2023. They are more concerned with developing his passing skills. They suffered the loss of David Montgomery, a valuable underrated player who did whatever the team asked of him.
With Montgomery now with division rival Detroit Lions, the Chicago Bears need a new starter at running back. There will be an intense, three-way battle to come out on top as the starter.
There was one player who was the backup last season and played well. The thought was that he would take over. That isn’t so clear now, however. The Bears brought in two more players, a veteran via free agency and a rookie from the draft, who will present a tough battle for the spot.
The three running backs all have different positives and negatives that will make this an interesting battle.
Here are the three players hoping to win the historic Chicago Bears’ starting running back spot.
