We continue our series featuring position battles on the Chicago Bears. Next up is cornerback. There is a three-way battle to see who becomes the starter opposite of Jaylon Johnson.

Our series looking into position battles on the Bears’ roster continues as we analyze the cornerback spot.

Chicago has Kyler Gordon at cornerback, but he seems to be better equipped, at least for now, to play in the nickel instead of the outside. He struggled a bit on the outside when he started there in his rookie season. When he moved over to the nickel he thrived, however. He was much more comfortable and was making plays there.

Therefore, in a perfect world, the Bears need someone who can start on the outside and keep Gordon where he feels more comfortable.

The Chicago Bears have three players battling to become the CB2 opposite of Jaylon Johnson.

Two of them played the position last season. The other is a rookie trying to make an impact. The team’s priority is to strengthen the secondary because this is a passing league. and the Bears ended up drafting their sixth cornerback in the past four drafts. They are looking for as much help there as they can. As a result, they have drafted six cornerbacks in the past four drafts.

A lot of the players they drafted are contributing on the field. There are two starters (the third should be the winner of this battle) and a lot of depth. The cornerback position is strong and built mainly through the draft. This is how general manager Ryan Poles wants to build the rest of the roster as well.

It will be an interesting and intense battle to see who comes out on top. At any rate, the competition should force the players to put their best foot forward. With that, the position will be strong this season. Additionally, the defense is now more athletic so defensive coordinator Alan Williams has more choices to try to stop offenses.

Here are the three players battling to become the Chicago Bears’ CB2.
