NFL Quarterback #3: Jimmy Garoppolo

Finding a veteran quarterback to replace Derek Carr was an immediate need for Las Vegas. A divorce between the franchise and its former gunslinger ended in a trade with the New Orleans Saints. It did not take long for the Raiders to commit to their quarterback of the future. Las Vegas agreed to a three-year $72,750,00 deal with Jimmy Garoppolo early in the off-season. Garoppolo has a lot to prove to his new team, but first, he must recover from injury. The Las Vegas quarterback underwent foot surgery in March and will miss OTA practices. The Raiders were aware of Jimmy G’s surgery before they agreed to a deal and will hope for a speedy recovery.

NFL Quarterback #2: Aaron Rodgers

Trade between the Packers and the Jets suffocated headlines this off-season. Aaron Rodgers relocated to New York and expects to become an X-Factor for a developing offense. His mission is not unattainable. Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson are reliable options for the veteran quarterback. Last season, the Jets ranked 29th in points per game (17.4). Zac Wilson and Mike White shared reps under center. The offense was too inconsistent. Eventually, the Jets eliminated themselves from playoff contention. A change under center appears to be the solution for New York. A winning season is expected, and the pressure will be on Aaron Rodgers’ shoulders.

NFL Quarterback #1: Russell Wilson

Last season was a disappointment for Denver’s front office. They worked hard to bring in a franchise quarterback but failed to bear fruit. Russell Wilson fell short of expectations. He ranked 13th in passing yards (3,524) but struggled to find open receivers in the endzone. Wilson threw 16 touchdowns – the fewest in a season since his rookie year. He tied his highest career interception total (11) and had his lowest quarterback rating. An unproductive season under Sean Payton’s tutelage will not end well.

Pressure to perform well derives from multiple sources. Athletes desire to showcase their best effort. Hard work in the off-season is the cost of success. Franchises and coaching staffs hold quarterbacks to high standards. They are leaders and ultimately decide the fate of the season. These gunslingers will have something to prove in 2023 – making it a must-see season for their fanbases.
