Gervon Dexter Sr — Rookie challenger #1

As mentioned earlier, the Chicago Bears spent three draft picks on the defensive line, two of whom have a legitimate chance at starting. The first one taken was Gervon Dexter St out of Florida.

Dexter had an impressive final season in college in which he recorded 55 tackles, 4 for a loss, 2 sacks, and an interception. He even added a pass defended.

Dexter boasts a rare combination of size, strength, and length, enabling him to break through offensive lines effectively. While he is yet to prove his prowess in the NFL, his college performances have set high expectations for his professional career.

While Dexter has some quickness, he has to be a little quicker coming off the snap. Once he gets going he is good but too many times he was slow once the snap was made.

Dexter is the likely choice as the starter at three-technique in the future. However, he is still a bit of a project. That may sound a bit odd because he was picked in the second round but he will end up playing a lot of snaps.

While he will compete at the three-technique, he probably will be used at the one technique, or the nose guard lined up right over the center. He will be a big boost to the Bears’ run defense. Additionally, he will give defensive coordinator Alan Williams different options to use. That keeps the opposing offense on its toes.

Dexter will end up being a good asset for the Chicago Bears’ defense. He is an exciting player who will help improve the defensive line play.
