The Buffalo Bills made a high-profile free agent signing, but it wasn’t probably what a lot of people had expected. There have been a lot of rumors about the Bills potentially going after a wide receiver like DeAndre Hopkins in recent weeks, but it wasn’t Hopkins they added to the roster most recently. It was actually another former first-round pick, but on the defensive side of the ball.

The Bills added former Chicago Bears first-round pick and former Los Angeles Rams pass rusher Leonard Floyd to the mix, a move that seemingly comes out of nowhere but actually is a really great move for the Bills overall. Especially when you consider Von Miller’s continued recovery from an ACL tear last year, it makes sense that the Bills would make a move like this.https://nflspinzone.com/2023/06/01/2023-nfl-free-agency-best-fits-remaining-top-fas/

And both Miller and Floyd won a title together as members of the Los Angeles Rams, wreaking havoc off the edge for opposing teams.

Buffalo Bills add value to pass rush with Leonard Floyd signing

With 29 sacks over the last three seasons, Leonard Floyd is pretty consistently averaging 10 sacks per year entering his age-30 season. Floyd really found his stride once he got to the Los Angeles Rams. He posted a career-high 22 QB hits last season for the Rams and over the last three years, he has a combined 98 total pressures.

When you’re talking about the Buffalo Bills, you’re already talking about a roster that doesn’t have many holes whatsoever. You’re also talking about a team that plays in one of the toughest divisions in football, especially after the offseason arrival of Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets.

The Bills are going to have to be deep not only to hang with the rest of their division, but to really make sure they are able to close out games in January. The loss of Von Miller last year was pretty detrimental to their overall pass rush, so having a player like Floyd as well is going to give this team enviable depth and a mixture of veterans and youth to work with.

One thing that bodes really well for Floyd?

He hasn’t missed a single game since the 2017 season. He doesn’t get a lot of hype or publicity, but Floyd is really one of those types of players that generates consistent pressure, he is consistently productive, he’s a veteran, and at this point, he’s now played in a lot of big games.

For the Buffalo Bills, this is the type of move that really creates even more separation, even in a loaded AFC East division race.
