Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott might be entering a very crucial year in 2023 and could find himself on a new club come 2024. At some point, something needs to give, right? Prescott has been the Cowboys’ starting quarterback since the 2016 season and has really carved out a nice career thus far.
He’s got one of the highest passer ratings in NFL history and could end up as the Cowboys’ most prolific passer if he ends his career with them. However, the limited playoff success during his tenure is something that is abundantly clear, and I’m wondering how much longer Dallas is going to allow this to happen:
Win a ton of games in the regular season, and at best win one playoff game before being bounced out of the Wild Card or Divisional Round.
Is Dak Prescott getting enough blame for the lack of team success in the postseason? I remember TV host Colin Cowherd calling Prescott “Kirk Cousins with better PR,” and honestly, I can’t unsee it. He’s a fringe top-10 QB who can light it up in the regular season.
Sometimes, his numbers are nice to look at and is usually good for winning 60% of his starts under normal circumstances, but regular-season success means nothing without playoff success.
If the Dallas Cowboys falter yet again in the postseason, especially this year, where they appear to have a great chance to make a run, wouldn’t Prescott be the next one to be the scapegoat? First, Jason Garrett got the boot and Mike McCarthy, a Super Bowl-winning head coach, was brought in.
Then, the team got rid of Kellen Moore, so he became another scapegoat.
The team also cut Ezekiel Elliott, signaling their willingness to part with veteran players that appeared scared to them.
Well, surely the Cowboys would look at Prescott or McCarthy next in another early playoff exit, right?
Listen, I like Dak, and I’d love it if he was my quarterback, for the most part, but at some point, coming up on a decade of him being in Dallas, you’d think that Jerry Jones and the management would have to put their foot down and say enough is enough.
Dak Prescott might not be with the Dallas Cowboys after the 2023 season.
