The Minnesota Vikings are expected to cut Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook, and both the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos will have interest. This is major news that many of us still saw coming. The four-time Pro Bowl running back, who has rushed for at least 1,100 yards in each of the last four seasons, will be cut by the Vikings on Friday if the team cannot trade him.
They’re apparently trying one last time to move him today before making a release official on Friday if they are unsuccessful.
A series of tweets from the legendary Adam Schefter details what will happen with Cook. The Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos will have interest in the player, and it seems like those will be the top two teams vying for his services.
I honestly do not see much room for Cook on the Dolphins’. Not only did they re-sign both Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson, but they also drafted Devon Achane in the 2023 NFL Draft. Why would then they add another RB?
I don’t see how they’d plan on efficiently using the RBs already on the roster and Cook. The fit is not there, to me. The Denver Broncos make a ton more sense in my opinion. Javonte Williams is still rehabbing from his torn ACL and there is no guarantee that he will be ready for week one.
The only other running back of note on the Broncos’ roster is Samaje Perine, a career backup. A backfield that features Dalvin Cook and Samaje Perine will give Williams more time to fully return from his injury, so there should be no rush there.
Once healthy, an RB duo of Cook and Williams would easily become the best in the NFL. Javonte Williams is one of the best RBs in the NFL at breaking tackles and has consistently been able to turn chicken salad into chicken you-know-what with his tough running style.
Furthermore, current Broncos’ GM George Paton was in the Vikings’ front office when Cook was drafted back in 2017, so there’s a huge connection there.
I would expect the Broncos to make a strong offer for Cook, and I think the Dolphins could too, but I also think they are satisfied with who they have on offense.
