New England Patriots: Bill Belichick could be on thin ice

New England Patriots‘ head coach has had the best career of any coach in NFL history, but this could be his last year as HC of the Patriots.  What a twist of events this could end up being.  Since Tom Brady departed the Patriots after the 2019 season, the Patriots have been an average team, at best.

They’ve missed the playoffs in two of the three years since Brady left and crashed and burned in 2022 after a promising 2021 season.  Turns out, when you give offensive play-calling duties to a defensive coordinator, the results on offense won’t be great.

Well, the Patriots did make a ton of solid strides to improve their roster and coaching situation for 2023.  They brought in Bill O’Brien to be the offensive coordinator and play-caller, which is a very solid move.

They also added three players of note on offense in JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mike Gesicki, and James Robinson.  In normal circumstances, what the Patriots have done this offseason would be applauded and would give them some momentum as a team who could get back to the playoffs.

However, with the insane additions that the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins have made, and the Buffalo Bills still being the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots are slowly being drowned out in the division, and it’s clear that the team is a distant fourth.

Well, I’m not going to bet on the New England Patriots as a playoff team this year.  I think they might be the 10th or 11th-best team in the conference, at best.

If the New England Patriots again miss the playoffs in 2023, does Bill Belichick really stay on as the head coach?

He would have been a part of three out of four seasons since the departure of Tom Brady where his teams have not made the playoffs, and that is simply not nearly good enough for a normal NFL team, let alone the New England Patriots.

I would pay attention to this scenario as I think Belichick might be on his way out.
