Justin Jones, Three Technique

Justin Jones was the starting three-technique for the Chicago Bears last season. He was not much of a contributor on the defense unless you count contributing to the failure of the unit. Last season, the Bears’ defense ranked 31st in rushing yards allowed and dead last in rushing touchdowns allowed.

Jones was not very impressive. He was not horrible but he had no impact. The Bears even tried to move him over to the defensive end but that did not work out.

How much was the three-technique worth for the Bears? Well, Poles spent a lot of his capital on the position. He drafted Gervon Dexter Sr in the second round and Zacch Pickens in the third. Additionally, he drafted another three-technique, Travis Bell, in the seventh round.

The Bears are not showing much confidence in Jones.

Jones will compete for the starting job, but like Ebner, he faces an uphill battle. The Bears spent a lot of draft capital to acquire Dexter and Pickens. Those two have the inside track on not only the starting spot but also the main backup.

Despite being the veteran, Jones finds himself in a tough battle and could be behind the rookies already.
