How the Jets replacing Chuck Clark with Adrian Amos impacts their defense
After Aaron Rodgers had an injury scare during OTAs, the New York Jets have had their first major injury of the offseason. What does this mean for the team going forward? Will the Jets be able to replace this player or just have a glaring hole on their defense?
According to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, it seems like Chuck Clark has suffered a long-term injury. It is unknown how long Clark will be out with the injury. It is assumed that he will be out for a long while due to the fact the Jets signed a replacement for him, safety Adrian Amos.
The Jets were able to get Chuck Clark for a future seventh-round pick from the Ravens. The Ravens were most likely going to cut Clark as a cap causality. The Ravens are set at the safety position for the foreseeable future with Kyle Hamilton and Marcus Williams, and this is why Baltimore cut him — not because Clark dipped in talent.
According to Jordan Schultz, the Jets have signed Adrian Amos to a one-year deal with his earning being up to $4 million for the entire season. Amos is an aging safety in this league who still has some talent. He could still have some of the same impact that Clark was going to have in New York.
What does this mean for the Jets’ defense going forward?
Chuck Clark is the better player of the two but the difference isn’t crazy huge. New York should be able to fool teams into seeing no difference. New York’s secondary group is already filled with some of the best talent in the league. Sauce Gardner is arguably the best corner in the league and he is only going into his second year.
D.J. Reed Jr is one of the best CB2s in the league. Jordan Whitehead is one of the best free safeties in the league. With that in mind, New York should be perfectly fine during its time without Clark. It would have been really fun to watch this secondary play this year. Hopefully, Clark will be healthy at some point during the season and they should be able to show their full potential.
