Chicago Bears: Bold predictions for training camp 2023
Chicago Bears training camp prediction: Scott pushes Claypool to the brink
Tyler Scott was the Chicago Bears‘ fourth-round draft pick in this year’s draft. He is a big play waiting to happen. In college, he averaged a mind-boggling 44.6 yards per touchdown play.
Scott has great speed and agility. He ran a 4.39 on his Pro Day but has been recorded hitting 4.29 in the 40-yard dash. That speed is not just practice speed. Some players have blazing speed but when they have the pads on and when other players are looking to hit them the speed suddenly isn’t there. When you look at Scott’s game film, however, you see his speed in action (as evidenced by his average yards per touchdown).
Scott has already been opening eyes at OTAs and at the minicamp just held. The coaches noticed his speed, his route-running, and the way he attacks the ball. When training camp begins he’ll have a real opportunity to showcase his skills.
Scott will push Chase Claypool at camp. Claypool came to Chicago via a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers at the trade deadline last season.
The Bears gave up a valuable second-round pick to acquire Claypool. His time in Chicago did not go as planned, though. He only had 14 catches for 140 yards in seven games with the Bears. At times he looked confused at where he had to line up. It was frustrating for him to go through what he did.
The thought is that with an entire offseason of work, Claypool will get better. Well, he better hope that happens. There have been conflicting ideas about how he is progressing. The Bears say publicly that they are happy with his progression. However, there was another report saying that the team is not happy with his work ethic.
If Claypool isn’t ready to work and be his best during training camp he will find himself looking at Scott taking his snaps. Worse yet, he might find himself out of a job completely.
