4. Dan Campbell – Detroit Lions

Media and fans love them some Dan Campbell. He’s an old-school fiery head coach that will give the media something to talk about. But Campbell’s seat is warming up like soup in the winter in Detroit.

The Lions are one of the few teams who have displayed more patience with Campbell than they had the previous coach. Matt Patricia (Patriots) replaced Jim Caldwell after back-to-back winning seasons (64-36 overall as the Lions head coach). Campbell started 3-13-1, but he followed that up with 9-8. The 2023 NFL Draft saw the Lions load up on young talent again, including taking runningback Jahmyr Gibbs and rookie tight end Sam LaPorta.

Gibbs is the dual-threat running back teams are looking to add to their offense. He’ll carry the load for an offense that’s primed to take a massive step forward. Fans know what Jared Goff can do with a back that has Gibbs’ skill set. In 2018-2019 Todd Gurley was the man carrying the rock for Goff when the Rams found themselves in the Super Bowl. The Lions also added some pieces on defense including a corner and defensive tackle inside the top 100 picks.

Expectations are high especially with Aaron Rodgers now in New York, the Bears aren’t there yet, and the Vikings can’t get any better. Now is the time for the Lions to take control. If not, they have a head coaching in waiting with Ben Johnson. And a quarterback, Hendon Hooker, who can bring a dynamic aspect to the offense Goff doesn’t have.
