Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow went down during training camp drills on Thursday, terrifying his team and “Who Dey” fans all over the country. Burrow’s injury was captured on video where he was seen rolling out to his strong side during 11 vs 11 drills.

Burrow appeared to suffer a non-contact injury to his right leg as he was hobbling on his left leg.

The immediate reaction after Burrow was eventually carted off the field was the fear that he had sustained an ACL tear/injury. Such an injury could have effectively ended his season before it even started. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor later told reporters that Burrow experienced a calf strain which should have Bengals’ fans sighing in relief (somewhat). Burrow will undoubtedly miss time on the practice field and likely preseason games but at this time will not be done for the season. Burrow’s LSU and now Bengals teammate receiver Ja’Marr Chase provided an encouraging update.

Burrow currently holds a record of 27-17-1 as the starter of the Bengals. In his three seasons in the NFL “Joe Cool” has made two playoff appearances, both of which resulted in AFC Championship appearances and a Super Bowl loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Contract extensions are beginning to roll out for Burrow’s fellow quarterbacks including Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert and Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.

Burrow is likely next up for a contract extension that will make him the highest-paid player in the NFL. Prior to the injury, Burrow stressed that a deal will be completed eventually but his focus is on keeping the core of his team together and being on the practice field.

This injury hopefully will not derail an already very accomplished career for such a young player in the NFL. Joe Burrow and the Bengals obviously have aspirations of competing for a Super Bowl and they have the roster to do so, with him at the helm.
