The 2023 NFL season is right around the corner, and even though it hasn’t started yet, these NFL teams are already doomed.  I guess anything can happen in the NFL, but it’s clear that there are a few teams who can truly win the Super Bowl and other teams who are clearly playing for 2024 and beyond.  No team will openly embrace a tanking season, but let’s be honest, I don’t think anyone believes that the Arizona Cardinals are going to win the Super Bowl this year.

For varying reasons, there are three teams whose seasons are already doomed.  I know that sounds insane because it’s early August, but I don’t think there is any scenario out there that would allow these three teams to make the playoffs or even finish with a winning record.

Who are these three teams as we approach the 2023 NFL season?

2023 NFL Season: 3 teams who are already doomed

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals hired a new general manager to begin the 2023 NFL season.  They are clearly a team who is not going to be very competitive in 2023.  Not only is their roster arguably the worst in the NFL, but their star QB, Kyler Murray, is rehabbing from a torn ACL he suffered in 2022.

And to make matters worse perhaps, no one really knows when Murray will return to the lineup.  I think what is going to happen is the Cardinals are going to begin the season with someone other than Kyler Murray under center, and from there I think they’ll see just how bad or good they are.  If they are somehow treading water, Murray may return, but if this team is struggling to win games, I think they’ll keep him out for the majority of the season.

If the team is bad enough, they could land the #1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which is surely going to be Caleb Williams.  The Cardinals could then try a healthy Kyler Murray, receive some cap relief, and restart their QB situation with Williams.

To me, the 2023 NFL season for Arizona is doomed already.
