2023 NFL Season: 3 MVP candidates that could be a surprise

Geno Smith

A year ago, this wouldn’t have made any sense but going into the 2023 season, Geno Smith has
really kicked off his NFL career. The last offseason started with a battle between him and Drew Lock to become the starter in Seattle which he won and quickly showed why.

Geno Smith won the NFL comeback player of the year in 2022. He had an incredible season and was rewarded with a three-year extension with the Seahawks. Smith threw for over 4000 yards and had 30 touchdowns, one of only four quarterbacks to do that. He also ended the season with a completion of 69.8% leading the entire league in that category.

The Seahawks already had DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett catch passing, now they’ve added rookie
Jaxson Smith Njigba to that group forming arguably the best wide receiver trio in all of football.

Now that Smith is the solidified starter, he can spend this offseason trying to improve on his
breakout season. The Seahawks finished 9-8 last season and earned a playoff berth, if they can
repeat that and Smith can be as efficient and help lead the Seahawks back to the playoffs putting up such incredible numbers, Geno Smith could be a surprise pick for the 2023 NFL MVP.
