Almost every team has a very skilled player who can’t shake off the injury bug and it’s fair to write that Chase Young is that player for the Washington Commanders. After winning Defensive Rookie of the Year, Young has struggled with injuries and this season appears to be no different early on.

Young’s health is in question again ahead of the Washington Commanders’ season opener against the Arizona Cardinals.

According to John Keim of ESPN, the fourth-year defensive end…

"“…remains uncertain for the season opener thanks to a stinger suffered in the preseason opener. He has not been medically cleared by doctors for contact.”"

This is not good for an elite defensive line on paper but has been hit by the injury bug. Outside of Young, the line has already been hit with its fair share of injured players. Phidarian Mathis and Efe Obada both landed on injured reserve at some point this offseason.

Remember that the Commanders decided not to exercise his fifth-year option with injuries appearing to be the primary reason why. In three seasons he’s only played in 27 games and outside of his rookie year, his production hasn’t been elite.
