The candidate for the blowout of Week 1 could go to the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Chargers. There just isn’t any hope for the Cardinals this year. Not only are they a bottom-5 team in the sport right now, but they don’t have a legitimate QB solution and also have a largely awful roster outside of some fun talent on offense.
It might be 2028 at the earliest for this team to actually get out of the abyss and compete for a Wild Card spot in the NFC. This could be a year where, internally, the decision-makers are hoping for a ton of losses and a high pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
And it’s not like the Chargers are a juggernaut - this team has won exactly 11 games and have lost in the Wild Card Round in each year of the Jim Harbaugh era, proving that they are a good team, but are nothing else than that.
The Chargers are well-coached, too, and sport a solid roster, but there are still some massive questions with the offensive line, and even some of the play-making talent just isn’t very special as a unit.
Los Angeles will win this game - they’re better than the Cardinals at just about every position, and Arizona could simply be a team that is used as a ‘get right game’ for many of their opponents.
I have a feeling that we’ll be picking the Cardinals to lose most weeks this season in our weekly picks and predictions. It’ll start with a Week 1 loss in blowout fashion. If fans can be patient, though, there could be some light at the end of the tunnel if this team ends up with, let's say, the first overall pick in the NFL Draft and a potential franchise QB set to fall right into their laps.
Prediction: Los Angeles wins 28-9
