Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants, 8:20 PM ET
The final game of the Week 1 slate is an NFC East showdown, as the Dallas Cowboys face the New York Giants. The Cowboys honestly had a very strong offseason, as this team needed to retool the defensive side of the ball, and they absolutely did.
But no bigger change may have taken place than the hiring of Christian Parker to replace Matt Eberflus. With Dallas already having a top-10 scoring offense, the Cowboys may only need an 18th-ranked scoring defense to be a playoff team.
With that said, all of those changes on defense could take some time to come together, so this might not be a ‘right out of the gate’ type of thing.
As for the New York Giants, their big move was bringing in Harbaugh, who was fired by the Ravens. While the Giants are still a solid year away from competing for a playoff spot, Harbaugh’s veteran presence could have an immediate impact on the team.
And with this game being a divisional showdown, I actually like the Giants here. While the Cowboys have advantages across the board, that’s also the point. Week 1, as I have said, could yield some wild results, and nothing would be more predictable than the Cowboys, after a ton of offseason hype, falling to the Giants in a primetime window.
I guess I am picking the Giants here based on ‘vibes,’ but the best team in any given matchup doesn’t always win, as crazy things happen that can tilt the entire course of the game. Let’s go with the Giants here in a close victory to close out Week 1.
But, as a footnote, the Cowboys will most definitely be the better team this year, and I would feel confident in picking them to win the NFC East as well.
Prediction: New York wins 26-20
