New York Jets @ Detroit Lions, 1:00 PM ET
The New York Jets and Detroit Lions come into this game both 1-1 with each having already played an overtime contest. The Jets lost in OT to the Packers in Week 2, while the Lions weren't able to hang with the Bills during Week 2's TNF game.
The Lions have major concerns as well, as this defense has been downright awful thus far, and while the team is missing two starting defensive backs, thing feel like they're about to go off the rails soon if something does not change.
With that being said, the Lions are the better team and are more talented across the board. They're a more well-run operation at this point and outmatch the Jets all over the place. The difference in QB talent between Geno Smith and Jared Goff is significant, and while the Lions will surrender some points, they should also win this game.
But when you look at the long-term viability of the Lions, it's not looking pretty. They got off to a 7-4 start during the 2025 season before finishing just 9-8 and missing the playoffs. The defense has honestly been an issue since that 2024 season when the injuries started to pile up, and those issues just have not gone away.
The Jets are in a totally different window. The team has a trio of first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft and likely have plans to make some sort of major QB move. For the time being, New York could be good enough to hang around many of their opponents, but the lack of a notable QB and a major weakness with the head coach will prevent this team from winning many more games this year.
