The battle for the state of Texas is on in Week 3.
This is suddenly a crucial non-conference matchup for both the Cowboys and the Texans.
Dallas just snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in a really disappointing loss against the Baltimore Ravens in Rio De Janeiro, spoiling a brilliant performance overall from quarterback Dak Prescott.
Prescott has done his part for this Dallas team, helping them average over 29 points per game through the first three weeks of the season, and the only reason he couldn’t do more against the Giants in Week 1 is because the Dallas defense could not get off the field in the second half of that game. The Giants possessed the ball for 37 plays and nearly 22 minutes of the second half.
And therein lies one of the biggest problems for this Dallas team trying to go on the road and beat a desperate Houston Texans team. If they can’t get stops, Prescott is going to be trying to throw a dart at a bullseye in the dark, not knowing which wall to aim at going up against this Texans’ defense.
Houston has one of the most feared defenses in the league, but the first three weeks of the season have taught us that they are certainly mortal. They allowed Josh Allen to throw all over them in Week 1 before giving up more big plays – at home – in Week 2 against Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Save for the Colts this past weekend, talk about having to run through an absolute gauntlet to start the season of elite QB and WR play.
Vegas clearly considers this game a toss-up with the Texans as 2.5-point favorites at home. It’s a mandatory 1.5-2 points for home-field advantage, but Houston hasn’t earned much of a benefit of the doubt during this 3-game skid they’re on.
My head says to pick the Texans and their dominant defense, but my heart says to pick the Cowboys and the explosive offense, even on the road.
I’ll go with my head this time…
Prediction: Texans win 23-19
