For both the Packers and Buccaneers, we’re asking the exact same question:
How in the world did we get here?
When the schedule was released, this game would have been circled as a potential playoff preview. Now, it’s got two head coaches who are being put on the media’s version of the head coach hot seat, and the Bucs won’t even have Baker Mayfield out there.
It’s the very nature of the NFL to be unpredictable, but for these two teams to combine for one overtime win against the New York Jets at this point in the season? That’s the level of unpredictability that crosses the border into mind-boggling.
The Packers have been a shell of the team we expected to see this season, starting on the offensive line. They have gone out and poached guard Laken Tomlinson and signed veteran Mekhi Becton to attempt to right the ship, but how quickly are those additions going to make a truly impactful addition?
Optimistically speaking, the Packers need the answer to be sooner than you think.
Neither of these two teams has inspired the type of confidence – up to this point – to make a prediction with any level of conviction, but the reality is that the Packers have Jordan Love and the Bucs – with all due respect to Jalon Daniels and how hard he’s worked to get to this point – have an undrafted rookie under center.
It says a lot about how poorly the Packers have played that, even with Mayfield’s thumb injury, they are only 3.5-point favorites on the road.
Prediction: Packers win 27-17
