Los Angeles Chargers (0-5) @ Kansas City Chiefs (4-0)
Sunday, October 18, 4:25 PM ET
We have officially reached the point at which the Los Angeles Chargers are going to be desperate to get on the board, if we’re not past that point already.
The Chargers have simply been too beaten up this season to be competitive, and they can’t stop making a million mistakes a game. One of the most shocking developments so far this season has been the play of quarterback Justin Herbert, who looks nothing like a quarterback that is paid over $50 million annually to do his job.
Herbert has played horribly, but his supporting cast has been borderline non-existent for most of the year. The Chargers are dealing with an injury report a mile long every single week. They have Ladd McConkey dressing for a game he won’t play in because they need bodies.
How are we supposed to expect anything other than a rather easy Kansas City Chiefs win on Sunday afternoon?
Again, this is the NFL, and weird things happen.
Everything about this game seems straightforwrard. The Chargers are winless, and the Chiefs are undefeated. The Chargers are banged up (to put it mildly), and the Chiefs are coming off their bye week.
Kansas City is a healthy 8.5-point home favorite in this one, but don’t be surprised if the Chargers find a way to pull of the upset. Weird things happen in divisional matchups like this, and winless teams can be super dangerous the more they are playing with house money.
I’m not going to go so far as to predict a Chargers win, but even with the records of these two teams, it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
Prediction: Chiefs win 27-23
