New Orleans Saints (1-4) @ New York Giants (3-1-1)
Sunday, October 18, 1:00 PM ET
Here is yet another matchup on the Week 6 schedule that I don’t know if the oddsmakers quite know what to do with.
The Saints are opening up this week as 1.5-point favorites going on the road against the New York Giants. Clearly, Vegas is not buying into the Giants’ 3-1-1 start with Jameis Winston mostly at the helm.
The Giants are coming off of a couple of really interesting games, to say the least. They were on the brink of losing two weeks ago against the Arizona Cardinals, but instead of throwing a game-winning touchdown in a goal-to-go situation to his own team, Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett threw a pick-six to Giants corner Deonte Banks.
The Giants were down by two scores and seemingly under the control of the Washington Commanders this past week, but found a way to climb back into the game, only to see Washington set up perfectly for a game-ending field goal attempt. The only problem is, the Commanders apparently forgot how a ticking clock works in the NFL.
Needless to say, the Giants have been a bit lucky the past two weeks, and sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.
They’re welcoming a New Orleans Saints team to town that has been playing way worse than I expected them to coming into this season. Although the Saints were able to pull off a remarkable win on the road against the Baltimore Ravens, that’s their only victory so far this season.
They aren’t going to have to face the Brian Flores defense every week, and thank goodness. He’s making everyone in the Vikings’ path look bad. But the Saints have been disappointing outside of that Vikings game, and find themselves in a must-win situation on the road.
Can they get the better of their old friend Jameis Winston? I’ve been confident in the Saints all year long, but my confidence is waning. I’m going to have to pick the Giants this week.
Prediction: Giants win 23-20
