Minnesota Vikings (6-0) @ Detroit Lions (4-2)
Sunday, November 1, 1:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Vikings have allowed just 74 points this entire season. That’s 29 fewer points than the next-best defense in the NFL this season.
Let that sink in for a moment.
The Detroit Lions, on the other hand, have just one game so far this season where they have allowed less than 21 points. They allowed 71 points in the first two games this season.
The good news for Detroit is that they are coming off their best defensive performance of the season, allowing just 17 points against the Green Bay Packers and finally getting one of their most important players – Brian Branch – back from injury.
The Lions’ defensive performance against the Packers has added another wrinkle of intrigue to this important NFC North showdown, because as dominant as the Vikings have been defensively, they’ve been equally inconsistent and frustrating on the offensive side of the ball.
This is one of a couple of matchups in Week 8 of the 2026 NFL season where the unstoppable force (Detroit’s offense) will meet up against the immovable object (Minnesota’s defense).
Jared Goff has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL all season, maybe the best in the league so far. He’s certainly had the highest floor on a week-to-week basis. The Vikings are a blitz-heavy team going up against a quarterback that is going to have answers for those aggressive tactics.
How this chess match gets played over four quarters will be fascinating. Detroit is a modest 3-point favorite at home, which is a good show of respect for what the Vikings have done this season as well as an acknowledgement of how good the Detroit offense has been.
I think this one is going to come down to the home-field advantage of Detroit.
Prediction: Lions win 23-19
