Jaxson Dart - New York Giants
You couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season if you’re a Giants fan. The Giants took down their biggest rival, the Dallas Cowboys, 28-20 at home on Sunday Night Football, and their quarterback, Jaxson Dart, had an awesome game to begin his sophomore season.
Dart completed 79.3 percent of his passes for 230 yards, three passing touchdowns and a 134.2 passer rating, which ranked second among quarterbacks in Week 1.
Dart was an exciting prospect coming out of college, but he was seen as a project considering the offense he played in under Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss. That is why his performance on Sunday night was so impressive. The improvement Dart has made from college to his rookie season to his first performance this season is remarkable.
Dart looked comfortable in the pocket, was smart with the football, made good decisions and spread the football around, as six different receivers caught a pass.
I can’t wait to see how Dart builds on this performance.
Trevor Lawrence - Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars dominated the Cleveland Browns 34-10 on Sunday, and Trevor Lawrence was a big reason why. Lawrence played practically flawlessly, completing 23 of 28 passes for 245 yards and four touchdowns while finishing with the highest passer rating in Week 1 at 150.6.
Lawrence's yards per attempt of 10.7, air yards per attempt of 11.2 and completion percentage over expected of 16.2 percent all ranked in the top three among quarterbacks in Week 1, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. That tells me Lawrence was making accurate, difficult throws down the field and was the primary reason for the offense’s success.
This is the best supporting cast Lawrence has had in Jacksonville. Lawrence and head coach Liam Coen are entering their second season together, giving the quarterback another year in a proven offensive system. He also has a trio of talented receivers in Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington, along with a talented tight end in Brenton Strange.
Since going No. 1 overall in 2021, Lawrence has flirted with “elite” status at times, but he hasn’t been consistent enough to claim that title. However, given his performance on Sunday, the talent around him and the continuity in Jacksonville, is this the year Lawrence finally lives up to his generational label coming out of Clemson and becomes one of the best quarterbacks in the league?
Caleb Williams - Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears scored (checks notes) 59 points against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. That is not a typo. It was the second-most points scored in an NFL season opener in league history and the most points scored by the Bears since 1980.
The run game was the star of the show, with Chicago rushing for 291 yards, averaging 7.5 yards per carry and scoring six rushing touchdowns. But Caleb Williams was impressive through the air as well, and for a specific reason.
The narrative on Williams entering his third season was that he’s an elite playmaker with impressive arm talent, but his inconsistent accuracy will keep him from becoming one of the league’s best quarterbacks. His completion rate of 58.1 percent from a year ago ranked 32nd out of 33 quarterbacks, while his completion percentage over expected was -6.7 percent, which ranked last in 2025. That context is why Williams’ Week 1 performance is so encouraging.
On Sunday, Williams completed 72.4 percent of his passes, which ranked ninth in Week 1, and posted a +11.4 percent completion percentage over expected, which ranked third. It’s a small sample size with only 29 attempts, but it’s an encouraging sign for a quarterback whose accuracy has been one of the biggest questions surrounding him.
We already know Williams has absurd playmaking ability and arm talent. It’ll be his consistent accuracy that will make this offense contend for the best in the league.
