The NFL season kicks off tonight with a Super Bowl rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. Both teams are starkly similar, yet different from when they matched up in February. At least, that is the overarching feeling around the two organizations.
The fact of the matter is that no one knows for sure what any team will look like. A squad that has minimal expectations on paper could surprise anyone and make a deep playoff run, lest we forget what people thought of the Seahawks and Patriots in 2025.Â
That is part of what makes football so fun to predict — the fact that it is wildly unpredictable. So, this series will probably find a way to make me look silly, especially early on in the season, but that is all in the name of good fun. Patriots vs Seahawks - revenge
Well, considering the word rematch was used in the first sentence, it felt too easy to use it again here. The word of the day for the Super Bowl rematch is revenge. In its simplest form, the New England Patriots are seeking revenge on the Seattle Seahawks over the whooping they took to end last season on.
Getting to the pinnacle of the sport and profession just to get the breaks beaten off of them, stuck with the players, coaches and staff members in that organization. On a night where Seattle will raise its second banner, the Patriots are looking to march in and steal the night and start the 2026 season the way that they hoped to end 2025.
49ers vs Rams - lower your expectations
Australia is getting a historic moment by hosting its first NFL football game. Unfortunately, that is the reason why this is the lower-your-expectations game of the week. In other words, people are hyping up the Los Angeles Rams facing the San Francisco 49ers a little too much.
On paper, it is a phenomenal matchup between division rivals with tons of playoff implications in Week 1 of the season. That said, it is an international game, which, more often than not, are games that are sloppy and not the most interesting to watch. This could be different considering neither team is coming off of playing a grueling game, unlike most international matchups, but it is a wait and see until proven otherwise.
