Commanders vs Eagles - get-right game
It does not feel right to call a Week 1 divisional matchup between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles a get-right game, but that is the exact world that we are living in. After an underwhelming season following an appearance in the NFC Championship Game in 2024, the Commanders look to right the wrongs that took place last year and show that it was not rookie magic that Jayden Daniels led the team on a deep playoff run a couple of years ago. On the other side, the Eagles are coming off of a tumultuous offseason in which the organization traded away its top wide receiver; the offense will look to show the world that it does not need A.J. Brown in green in order to function at a high level and get back on track after a down season.
Cowboys vs Giants - rivalry
The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants have a lengthy rivalry that will be revisited on Sunday Night Football in Week 1. Both teams had great additions during the offseason; however, the most important one, perhaps, was not a player, but a coach. The new head man in New York is John Harbaugh, who is a known motivator and could use this stage and rivalry to kick the Giants into high gear early in his tenure and revitalize a rivalry that has been, largely, lackluster for a few years now.
Broncos vs Chiefs - most meaningful
Finally, we come to Monday Night Football and a matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos to conclude Week 1 of the regular season. Both quarterbacks are looking to bounce back after ending 2025 with an injury, essentially ending both squads' hopes for a Super Bowl victory. With both guys being back and healthy to begin the season, the final game of the first week becomes a story of who can get back to the top of the AFC West and put themselves in a prime position to make a deep playoff run that the injury gods took away from them last year, making this matchup the most meaningful of the week.
