11. Cincinnati Bengals - Will Echoles, DT, Ole Miss
At 6-3 and about 310 pounds, Will Echoles fits into that 'space eater' category that every good defense needs. The Cincinnati Bengals have, to their credit, invested a ton of resources into the defense in recent years, and while those moves were very overdue, why stop now?
Echoles definitely has some fun upside. The missed tackles are a concern, but he's stout against the run and does have some talent as an interior rusher. As of now, he projects as someone who could develop into a three-down lineman, which is very encouraging, especially with defenses constantly rotating personnel along the front seven.
Doesn't it feel a bit less common in today's NFL to have front seven players that are on the field on all three downs...? The Bengals feel like a team that has to make the playoffs to prevent something major from happening, and if they do get into the postseason, it'd be smart to continue building on this side of the ball.
12. New York Jets - Ellis Robinson IV, CB, Georgia
The New York Jets, currently, would have their three first-round picks in the first 12 selections. In an ideal world, Mougey is able to keep all three first-rounders while still landing a legitimate QB prospect in the process, and it's two-straight defensive players in a row, as the Jets take CB Ellis Robinson IV from Georgia.
The defense has just flat-out underperformed in the Glenn era, but it is worth wondering if this is also due to an overall lack of talent, especially in the secondary. I am of the opinion that the front office brings in a new coaching staff next year, and, even if that isn't the case, the secondary has to still be a point of emphasis.
