13. Pittsburgh Steelers - KJ Bolden, S, Georgia
It really feels like the Pittsburgh Steelers have not built their secondary the right way in recent years. They just traded one of their key home-grown talents at the position in Joey Porter Jr, but, otherwise, this secondary is made up of offseason acquisitions and not NFL Draft picks, which feels like a mistake.
To be fair across the board, though, the entire Steelers franchise and how they have operated is a bit of a mistake. This team is not built to win games in the NFL right now, so they had better hope that one of Drew Allar or Will Howard can develop into a franchise QB, as they'll again likely win too many games to have a top pick.
Getting some home-grown talent in the secondary would be a welcome change for this franchise. I am not sure GM Omar Khan is capable, but for the time being, we'll give the Steelers the benefit of the doubt. KJ Bolden is one of the best defensive backs in the country and is not only a sure tackler, but is also a 'plus' in run defense, which are two qualities than every secondary needs.
14. Dallas Cowboys - Yhonzae Pierre, EDGE, Alabama
Unfortunately for the Dallas Cowboys, they seem to be approaching another year where the defense just isn't nearly good enough. In fact, the defense is once again bad.
Christian Parker is the defensive coordinator and may have been the wrong hire, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer may also not be the right head coach for this team. You definitely can't blame the Cowboys for not trying, though, as they have made a series of trades on defense and have at least gotten aggressive in trying to fix that unit.
But Dallas does need more talent on this side of the ball, and it could simply be a situation where the best defensive player available is picked. Yhonzae Pierre has fun traits and does have the size/athleticism/skill set to be a future starter off the EDGE. This would be a wise pick.
