At this point, it might be fair to say New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey never saw a trade come across his desk that he didn't like.
Mougey has made at least a dozen trades since he's been the general manager of the Jets, so we should probably expect him to keep making more. He's not done tinkering with the roster, and with the NFL Draft on the way, there could be some players available -- perhaps even at a discounted rate -- that could help his roster.
According to ESPN, there have been some "rumblings" about the Jets potentially having interest in a trade for a receiver, and a couple of names were thrown out there: Dontayvion Wicks (Packers) and Brian Thomas Jr. (Jaguars).
New York Jets trading for Dontayvion Wicks would be a genius move before NFL Draft
Even if it's just a rumor at this point, the idea of the Jets trading for Dontayvion Wicks is a really smart one. Wicks is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Packers, so he's going to come cheap in terms of his current contract situation.
The Packers should be motivated to get some actual value for a player like Wicks, because they've already got Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed, Bo Melton, and they added Skyy Moore this offseason.
If Wicks isn't in the Packers' future plans, they should get whatever pick they can get for him. They could supplement losing him in the NFL Draft with another rookie coming in, possibly as a Day 2 or Day 3 pick.
And for Wicks, the Jets would be a pretty great landing spot. They've got a veteran quarterback in Geno Smith coming in to run the offense, so he'd likely get some great looks on top of some favorable matchups with Garrett Wilson commanding so much attention.
If the Jets are planning on using one of their early picks on a receiver anyway, why not throw a Day 3 pick at the Packers and see if they'll bite on trading Wicks?
When Wicks was more of a featured weapon in the Green Bay offense, he was a monster after the catch. He had nine touchdowns in his first two seasons combined, and averaged 14.9 yards per catch as a rookie. Even though the Packers have not featured him nearly as much in the last two seasons, by comparison to his rookie year, Wicks has talent worth rolling the dice on.
And the Jets are the perfect situation to get a look at that talent in 2026.
