High-upside plays for Week 1 at running back

Tyler Allgeier

Jeremiyah Love is officially expected to be active this week for the Arizona Cardinals after sustaining a sprained ankle in the preseason, so why would Tyler Allgeier be a high-upside play for fantasy football? The answer is due to the fact that Love missed so much time in training camp, and preseason is only returning to practice this week. Odds are the Cardinals will ease the rookie running back into the offense week-by-week, meaning Allgeier should be the starter this week until the team feels like Love is ready to take on a bigger role.

MarShawn Lloyd

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is currently on the Commissioner’s Exempt list, making him ineligible to play at all, meaning that someone on the team is going to have a massive opportunity to establish himself as the starter in his absence. The man who seems most poised to capitalize on this opening is MarShawn Lloyd, who is finally healthy after playing in just one game since coming into the league in 2024. If Lloyd is able to make good on this opportunity, he could be a permanent fixture in fantasy lineups until Jacobs comes back, if he does this season.

Chris Rodriguez Jr.

There is no telling what the Jacksonville Jaguars are planning to do with its running back room in the 2026 campaign, and the official team depth chart gave no indication of a starter, either. Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Bhayshul Tuten were named co-starters by the Jaguars, alluding to the job being up for grabs. Although Tuten is the trendy name to end up with the job, Rodriguez, by virtue of the starter not being named, is going to have upside this weekend against the Browns, and if he wins the job, he could be a solid flex option moving forward.
