2. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1)
What a gritty win for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now 3-1 on the season, the Jaguars look and feel like one of the best teams in football. Both sides of the ball just barely did enough in this one, and while Trevor Lawrence did play quite well, the story of the afternoon may have been the defense holding the Cincy offense to just 17 points.
As I have maintained for a little bit now, the Jaguars are a very good team, but I just continue to have roster concerns. The current regime is only in year two here, and there is virtually no way for a front office to build out their vision that quickly.
The coaching continues to be outstanding, and that’s something they can continue to ride throughout the season. Now at 3-1, the Jaguars are 16-5 since the start of the 2025 season, as they were 13-4 last year. QB Trevor Lawrence completed nearly 80 percent of his passes and had a 122.3 passer rating, which is his second-highest rated game of the season.
1. San Francisco 49ers (4-0)
The San Francisco 49ers deservedly take the top spot in our power rankings. The 49ers beat the Broncos in Week 4 and are doing it without a ton of key players on both sides of the ball. Beating the Broncos with as injured as they are is quite the accomplishment.
QB Brock Purdy still hasn’t been sacked, which is impressive, and he’s honestly playing like an MVP candidate through four weeks. We can only imagine how much better this team would be right now if they weren’t dealing with so many injuries, but alas, they are, and that’s the NFL for you.
The 49ers remain atop the NFC West, and given what we have seen so far, it’s pretty unquestionable that this is the best team in the division, conference, and the league. If they can find a way to get healthier as the season goes on, watch out…
