2. Zavion Thomas
The Chicago Bears were in the market for a deep threat at wide receiver after the team traded away D.J. Moore this offseason. The organization brought in several players to compete for the open slot in the offense. Zavion Thomas went out in the third week of the preseason and said that battle is over.
On the first snap on offense on Saturday, the rookie wide receiver showed off his speed, hands and ability to break loose on a defense. Thomas took the opening play 97 yards for a touchdown, ending his day with 140 total receiving yards and a touchdown on five catches, in addition to several great returns on special teams. He went out and claimed his roster spot with his play, and likely became a starter for the Bears, replacing Moore as the deep threat.
3. J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant secured his roster spot with the Green Bay Packers with his final preseason performance on Friday night. In that game, the undrafted wide receiver put on a show for the cheeseheads. He went for 112 yards and a touchdown on six catches.
Whether or not Sturdivant will be a regular contributor for the Packers in what is a congested pass-catcher room is still to be determined. What is not for debate is his roster spot with the team. He went out on Friday night and proved that he belonged on the team.
4. Joe Fagnano
The Baltimore Ravens had a war take place for the backup quarterback job. The fact that both Joe Fagnano and Tyler Huntley made the roster would imply that there is still more competition to come if the need for a backup should arise in Baltimore. One thing is for certain: Fagnano made the roster with his excellent play this preseason.
The undrafted rookie quarterback ended his run by throwing for 167 yards and a touchdown on Friday. In total, he had 514 passing yards and 4 touchdown passes this preseason. Fagnano earned his roster spot and will continue to compete for that backup job with a Pro Bowl quarterback.
