8. Kaden Wetjen
Now, Wetjen is not a typical offensive player. While he had a great play for a long touchdown in the first week of the preseason, the rookie was relatively quiet on offense since. That is because Wetjen is more of a special teams ace.
His play on Thursday night proved that he is capable of being a lethal return man for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the final preseason game of the season, the rookie returner took a punt and returned it for a stunning 45-yard touchdown. As a result, the Steelers won by a point, and his big play locked Wetjen into the opening roster in Pittsburgh.
9. Nicholas Singleton
The Tennessee Titans had a battle going on for who the third running back on the opening day roster would be this preseason. In the final game, rookie back Nicholas Singleton carved himself out a spot on that roster, and likely wrapped up the job in Tennessee. In this game, Singleton showed his diversity and ability to extend plays.
The rookie running back broke off tacklers and picked up extra yardage on several of his touches. Crucially, Singleton was the only running back to get a carry in the first half on Saturday. While his roster spot may have been set in stone already due to the draft capital invested in Singleton, the rookie running back might have played himself into the third running back role regardless of that.
10. Chris Bell
Skylar was not the only Bell in the AFC East making his NFL debut this past week. Chris Bell was in the same situation on Friday as he returned from a torn ACL in college. He put up 22 yards on two receptions in his first appearance in the league.
The thing with the preseason is that not many players are out there for an entire game. So, Bell put up a good showing in limited action. In the game, the rookie had a great grab over the middle that he took for extra yardage, showing how well he is able to move coming off of such a major injury in college.
