2. Baltimore Ravens’ wide receiver room
On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens lost a pair of its top contributors to injury in the win over the Indianapolis Colts. Ja’Kobi Lane sustained a fractured wrist and is still undergoing testing to determine if there is anything else on top of that. As things stand right now, Lane is a candidate to go on injured reserve, as he is expected to miss multiple weeks.
The Ravens also lost its star receiver Zay Flowers in the first half on Sunday. The pass-catcher put up 150 yards, a career-high in any game he played in as a professional, and a stellar performance in the season-opener, but sustained a hamstring injury and did not return to the game. Hamstrings are always tricky, as they have a tendency to linger if a player returns too quickly.
Both players are at risk of missing time early on in the season. Baltimore will rely on some of its other receivers to pick up some slack in their absence.
1. A.J. Brown
Sam Darnold was not the only key player who sustained an injury in the kickoff game this season. Newly acquired wide receiver A.J. Brown left the game early with a high-ankle sprain after a defender landed on his ankle after breaking up a pass, and left Seattle in a walking boot. Overall, the injury could have been a lot worse for Brown, but the presumed top pass catcher for the New England Patriots is officially on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the next four games.
With that being the case, someone needs to step up and become a top target for Drake Maye. When Brown left the game, Maye got impatient and forced the ball down the field, resulting in three interceptions for the Seahawks. If no one can carry the load as a top target, New England could dig itself into an early hole that the team might not be able to climb out of this season.
